new kooky kritters!

Hi everyone!

Happy Monday :) Hope you had a nice weekend. On Friday I had a fun experiment day and above are the results! I created plenty of new characters to join my kooky kritters family (I've added some new ones to my lampwork website shop too!) including puppies, bunnies, hamsters, guppy fish, a cow, a chick and a vampire squid!

Here are the guppies from the front. They have the sweetest little smiling faces :) The little blue fish, Fido, is in my lampwork Etsy shop right now!

And the bunny trio is just in time for Easter: Dotty, Trixie and Daisy.

I had a request for more hamsters.. and here they are! This is Muffin and Pumpkin. Expect more hammies soon :)

Last, but not least, the terribly scary VAMPIRE SQUID!! Are you scared? A little? Not even a tremble? Wellll.. ok, he's probably cuter than he is scary ;) I adore squid, cuttlefish and octopuses (brief aside: I distinctly remember being taught the plural was 'octopi'.. which led me to this.. where I could spend ALL DAY!)

Off to light the torch and get to work on some orders. Tomorrow is new dreads day so I have to make up for taking the day off tomorrow!! :)

Have a wonderful week!

micro owl madness!!

Hi everyone!

Happy Friday :) Any plans for the weekend? I have to go into town and pick up more Directions hair dye as I'm getting new dreads put in on Tuesday.. YAY! I haven't decided what colours I'm doing yet though. I should probably make up my mind!

I'm having so much fun creating these micro owls. The pictures really don't show just how teeny they are either. They are SO SMALL! I love miniature anything, really, and beads are no exception. The picture above shows them in pairs. From left: Horace, Skippy, Disco, Fifi and Domino. They make me giggle :) I have a few more new kooky owls and a micro pair in my lampwork Etsy shop! Have a peek ;)

And here they are in my hand to kind of give you an idea of size. They average about 11-12mm tall! If you know me, you know I usually make big beads so it's always fun to give that a break for awhile and make micro beads. I have sooooo many plans for this new kooky kritters line! Any suggestions on animals you'd like to see kookified? Yes, it's a word.. cause I said so. I have a whole day free on the torch today so it's experiment time :) I LOVE experiment days!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

cherry blossoms.. and owls!

Hi everyone!

A whole week without blogging.. ohhh, I'm bad. I've been working hard on orders and getting ready for The Big Bead Show. It's in 3 1/2 weeks.. yikes! Anyway, above is a custom order Cherry Blossom Tree Set. I really adore that pink glass yet I hardly ever use it. As a matter of fact, I think the only time I use it is for this focal! I do like the overall look of this set, though, and the focal is one of the beads in all my banners :)

I've also been making micro owls! These little guys are super teeny and measure only about 11mm tall! I love making micro beads.. it's like a game to see how small I can make them :) These dainty little guys will make fantastic earrings.

In website news: I've added a Kooky Kritters category to my site which contains some.. kooky kritters! Imagine that! There are a few in there now but I'll be putting a lot more in there shortly. I've also added a Bead Box category which contains sale beads. Go have a peek, the beads in there are up to 50% off!

Off to light the torch and melt some glass. Have a great day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Hi everyone!

I'll take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy St. Patrick's Day and also finally post a pic of new dreads :) I was supposed to have green dreads (and, oh, it's the most gorgeous wool!) but I couldn't quite get all the pink out of my hair so I put in the Easter dreads early. I've had a ridiculous amount of compliments on the colour but, truthfully, I'm not diggin' it. I just don't think I like too-bright, neon-y colours and these really are over the line. They're certainly cheerful though!

Anyway, back to St. Patrick's Day! I LOVE St. Patrick's Day. It's so much fun to get all decked out in my green accessories. I decorate the house too! I have tons of beautiful decorations from the wonderful, beautiful, terribly talented Shelley of Prairie Cottage Rose. She makes fantastic runners, ornaments, crocheted things and more. I absolutely adore her (and her work!). This year's jewellery adornments are from various lovely ladies: custom hair clips and brooch by Betty of Designed By Betty Shek, custom button necklace (and matching bracelet) by Collette of Noodlefish, gorgeous felted heart pendant by Meli of Stemellina (she has multiple shops - check them all out!) and an AMAZING felt bangle with clover embroidery (I should really take a picture) by my favourite fiber artist and good friend, Debbie, of Felter's Journey. Whew! Yeah, I really get into my holidays! I want to thank ALL of these ladies for their continued patience and willingness to accommodate all my custom requests too. You're all amazing and talented and I love you!

Ok, gushing over.. for now ;) Hope you all have a wonderful day! Lots of love and luck to you :)

Sakura

Hi everyone!

I was asked to create one of my Sakura trees and matching bracelet lentils for a specific wedding outfit. The lovely customer asked for brighter blossoms than my usual so I made some deliciously bright pink encased stringer and hoped for the best. What do you think? My sweet customer is pleased with them and so am I! I really like the brighter pink against the black and white.

I just received a huge order of felted beads so watch this space for some new jewellery designs!

Have a great day :)

more kooky kittens ;)

Hi everyone!

I created a few more of my new kooky kittens :) I'm having so much fun making these silly beads :) From top left: Crybaby, Paulette, Shamrock, Marietta, Esther; bottom: Baby, Prissy, Eddie, Suzette, Nora and Peaches. These really brighten my day at the torch and I really look forward to finishing any orders so I can get to making more of these or the kooky owls. I have listed a few more kittens and owls in both my lampwork Etsy shop and in my lampwork shop. I hope you'll have a peek!

Then I had another idea.. what if I made kooky kitten versions of some of my popular full-sized kitty focals!?! Meet Eddie :) He's the kooky kitten version of my Edgar Zombie Kitty. I think he turned out SO funny! I love how his eyes seem to be wide with shock as he gazes at the skull. Heehee :) Eddie is now available in my lampwork shop too!

I'm off to make beads.. I hope you're having a good day too!

owls!! (not kitties)

Hi everyone!

Happy Monday :) Did you have a nice weekend? I've been fighting a cold for over a week now so we had a pretty quiet weekend. Nothing to report, really. Bead-wise, I have something fun to talk about though! Owls! Why owls? Well, when I made my kooky kittens last week, I had a few people either think they were owls.. or think they looked a lot like owls. So I had to show them what an owl actually looks like! In keiaraland anyway ;) Above is the group shot of some owls I made last week. From top left: Candy, Fred, Lydia, Honeybear, Blizzard and Puddles. Bottom: Bluebell, Thistle, Twilight, Sweetpea, Domino and Hector. I'm absolutely crazy about them! They're tons of fun to make and I really like giving them different silly expressions :)

And just to be sure we have illustrated the difference..! See, they look nothing alike.. really.. I swear!! Heehee ;)

I'll be bringing lots of kittens, owls and other cute beads to The Big Bead Show on Saturday, April 17th at Sandown Park. Don't forget: if you're going to make an appearance at the show, send me an RSVP email and I'll give you a discount on all my beads at the show!!

Have a great week!

new kitties!! introducing kooky kittens :)

Hi everyone!

I wanted to show you my new kitty design. I'm calling them kooky kittens and they are SO much fun to make. They are smaller than my original kitties and are more simply decorated. What do you think? I love their little mischievous expressions ;)

These will be listed in my lampwork Etsy shop and also on my lampwork website shop so come have a look. I've also listed some new lampwork jewellery in my Ready To Go Jewellery section.

Have a great week everyone!
